The trucking industry has strong opinions about regulators’ independent contractor classification rules. But how important are these rules? The classification concerns a regulation that has little effect on the industry and a population that makes up a minority of total drivers. “It’s a smaller percentage of the overall group of drivers, but it is very important—both to those individuals that decide to go down that route and also to the companies that work with them,” Nathan Mehrens, VP of workforce policy for the American Trucking Associations, told FleetOwner.
