Shippers support scrapping regulations that prescribe how trucking companies and shippers write freight transportation contracts, while trucking companies strongly oppose such actions.

Their views were expressed in comments submitted last week to the Interstate Commerce Commission on the ICC's proposal to repeal those rules, including one requiring contracts be put in writing.Last July, the commission began a proceeding to consider repealing the contract rules. The move was intended, in part, to remove legal loopholes that might allow some truckers to contest freight bills.
