The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is extending the compliance deadline for a financial responsibility rule affecting freight brokers, which initially took effect earlier this year. New Compliance Deadline Set for 2026 In a notice published in the Federal Register on November 4, 2024, the FMCSA announced that compliance with the “Broker and Freight Forwarder Financial Responsibility” Final Rule, which aims to protect truckers from brokers who fail to pay, has been pushed to January 16, 2026. The agency explained that this extension is necessary as the new online registration system will not be ready until January 2025. The delay gives regulated entities time to familiarize themselves with the system before compliance is mandatory. |
