As tariffs go into effect on American trade partners, one of the nation’s largest trucking trade groups is warning the White House that they could have a devastating impact on the U.S. trucking industry. On March 4, the Trump administration fulfilled its promise to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% tariff on China. The tariffs are part of a White House strategy to stem the flow of the drug fentanyl into the U.S. and to curb illegal immigration. This resulted in the immediate imposition of tariffs from China and Canada on U.S. goods. Mexico also plans to announce retaliatory measures in the coming days. |
