This is one of the most common questions I get when talking to someone who is looking to go out on their own for the first time. It's an important consideration as you don't want to spend all that money to get your authority up and running only to find out you can't book any loads!
Many of the brokers and shippers I've talked to have a 90 day, 6 month or 12 month age of authority requirement. But I've also talked to others who go more on driver experience. I always encourage new businesses to lean on their years of experience and leverage existing relationships in the industry. Either way we've set up many authorities over the past year and all of these guys have been able to find work even with a new authority. I'd love for more people to weigh in below: If you are a shipper or broker what is your company's policy on new authorities? Does driving experience weigh into this at all? If you are a carrier who has set up their authority recently what did you experience when you first got started?
As always, you can reach out to me here with questions! -Tanner

As a new authority as of last April, I only had one broker that wouldn't use me. They wanted 6 months. Otherwise, no problem.

That's great to hear Brad! And now you've been at it for almost a year. Thanks for letting us partner with you to get everything set up! |
