All their so called rules are now basically null and void. Law suits will end many regulations from fda to epa ...... Hoping that rules from fmcsa are also ruled illegal. I am not sure who makes the rules but if it is not congress, it is not legal under today's SC decision

Well I can tell you for fact that it does not work to have a piece of plastic, inanamate object trying to tell a human being when they are tired or not tired! Many mornings I woke up in a rest area, drove to the next rest area and took a nap. I knew that I was not fit to be on the road so I did the responsible thing to do and rest until I was ready to go. I also had many days where I could have drove 24 hours straight and still been as fresh in hour 24 as in hour 1. This industry needs to be turned back over to the drivers! Just because a computer says it is a good idea, doesn't mean it is a good idea!

Be safe out there!

Act naturally. Work when there is work. Eat when you are hungry. Sleep when you are tired. Sadly our system doesn't allow the mass' to think for themselves. Social pressures. Financial pressures. Look at the case of the "pig racer" that left his truck in the middle of the road and walked off. The investagation showed he had been on the job for nearly 30 hours and was on meth. Trying to support his family and business. What a shame.

I always wondered what data was used to justify, logbooks. I dont remember at least reported a large ammount of crashes that were due to fatigue or anything of that sort.

However I do see the trend, since 2018 crashes with semi trucks have been alarmingly increasing.

Here in Iowa, like other states, they put the traffic deaths (year to date) on the traffic alert signs. Typically Iowa ends up at roughly one a day. 365. So far this year, half over, we're at about 130. Quite an improvement. Why? I don't know. People have gotten better at distracted driving? Maybe not. Two crashes in FL / GA recently where a four wheeler run under a big truck stopped on the shoulder. Maybe it's because freight is down meaning fewer trucks on the road. Hopefully it's the least desireable of the bottom feeders that have parked. I saw some evidience of this at the casino in Altoona. There appeared to be a half dozen or so abandoned trucks sitting there. Rusty fifth wheels, no current IFTA stickers, seven digit US DOT numbers starting with a 3. The type of equipment, condition, domiciled from recognized places of the foreign operators. Maybe we just had a mild winter.

I often wonder if Elog were not set up as a way to lower unemplyment they have nothing to do with safety. Mkae lot guy park earlier so everyone needs hire more guys and unemplyment goes down. Tax base increases so government wins and common folks just has to work harderfor less

The E log was never about saftey , It took some years to come to a head but it was just about getting freight moved cheaper to try and keep cost of goods down to counter their nonsense , now a day's you don't need to know anything except push a button to make the truck go and push buttons when computor tells you what and when you need to do , oh and don't worry if you can't read or speak english we can do your log from the office , I will have 40 years at the the beggining of august and im really discusted about what this industry has become , you know it's bad when you can't even have any respect for fellow driver's anymore because the little black box tells them that they need to act like a fool all day....So saftey NO WAY but just like any other time the goverment [ who most of the time can't run themselves ] sticks their nose into this industry it seems to take a nose dive....

So now rates are in the toilet and it’s critical to get miles, but nobody can because their hands are tied, so they will wither away and die, all because the ATA paid the government off to strong arm their competition, meanwhile immigrants line up to replace us, and the social justice warriors are MIA? Hymmm

E logs are about government control of the drivers. Notice when there is rampant theft and double brokering they are no where to be found to protect truckers? They can only control you who are legally licensed.

The stats being used to show an increase in big truck crashes since 2018 is misleading. They are counting total crashes. Crashes where the big truck is not at fault should not be counted. If you count only at fault cmv crashes, the number drastically changes and would not fit the narrative.

It seems this has turned into the HATE THE LITTLE BLACK BOX discussion. My question to anybody who hates E-logs or hours of service in general is this, without a way to regulate the hours worked, what keeps a company driver (or any trucker) from being a modern day slave? We are already one of the only industries in America exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. You can legally work up to 70 hours a week as a truck driver. I can tell you from experience in the livestock hauling industry that when you allow truckers to work using only paper logs they will run around the clock because that's what's expected, and if you don't somebody will take your place. The Iowa pig hauler found dead recently is a prime example of what can eventually happen when you push yourself or get pushed too hard.

The deep state will just ignore the Supreme Court just like they do on everything else, the politicians are no different than a w**** in the ghetto hooked on drugs, except their drug is money, money has been turned into a religion, it is worshipped like a false god, politicians are just pretty little show pieces kept around for nostalgia by the elite.

Correct me if I’m wrong but you stated recently that you parked your truck and took a company job because rates were so poor, so how did the ELD save you from slave wages? As for the pig racer you speak of that’s sort of like saying government should ban certain foods that are linked to diseases because people need to be protected from themselves, also what would have prevented him from using two different driver ID’s to defeat the black box and run for 30hours strait? What has the ELD done to improve retention? We have 6 years of Data now that it hasn’t improved anything at all, other than bankruptcy lawyers bottom lines, if government eliminated the FSLA exemption companies would no longer be incentivized to push a driver that hard, but instead they choose to promote low wages, the DOT just announced that 20 more states will now offer the CDL test in spanish because there is a critical driver shortage, meanwhile several states have been quietly repealing child wage laws to lower wages for everyone else, America no longer belongs to the voters, the borders prove it.

Yep, I took a company driving job for part of the summer with no regrets. I've made decent money and not put ware and tare on my equipment for junk rates. I will return to running bulk with my own equipment closer to fall when rates tend to get a little better. E-logs were never meant to improve rates or retention. The "pig racer" was a human being that was literally being run to death. Guys in that line of work turn to hard drugs to stay awake because their competitors can also run around the clock.
