I understand that we need clean equipment for some of this stuff, but why do I need to washout if I haul a dry product like wheat and then anther washout to haul a load of barley?

Because the second load was food grade or organic or both. They don't even want dust to contaminate anything organic, food grade would be less restrictive.

I agree also with the over amount of wash outs. We had a driver slip inside trailers while washing out hoppers and the fall resulted in a broken sacrum and 8 weeks off work. Who pays for that?

Trust me you hopper guys should be happy compared to liquid freight washouts. We pay 175-350 to wash out between every load. Ditch that hopper and start hauling chemicals, the freight pays about double (if not more) and we do pay for the washout as a seperate line item.

aint that the truth. I just waited 4.5 hours to get on the rack and paid $220 for my washout in Houston and that was with no heel. A hopper ran through and got his for $60 and was in and out in an hour. |
