I recieved an updated contract from a local rock yard this week for me to sign, 11 pages long just to haul some rocks seems ridiculous to start with. As I started reading through (I'm guessing most don't) section 15 really popped out to me. I would be signing my consent to inspections of my shop and office!? And anything they wanted to look at the way I read this. This rock quarry has their own trucking company as well, I can't imagine them wanting to go through peoples offices looking at records, rates, customers - and honestly they probably wouldn't...but I'm signing that they would have permission to do just that. Am I reading this the wrong way? Would you sign this? FYI I asked the owner about it, and was just told if I don't sign I don't haul. Kinda sucks, but am not signing. |

You did the right thing by not signing the agreement. It's amazing how many don't read over carrier agreements. My wife reads through all of them before we sign them. We cancelled a load one time after reading that a particular broker (on this load board) didn't have to pay the trucker until they received payment from the shipper... Sorry, my truck, my trailer, my insurance, my fuel, my time, runs the load. My bills are due upon receipt or within 30 days whether the broker gets paid or not.

I had the same thing a few years back with a broker out of Nebraska. Sent the carrier agreement in on a forklift. I didn't get through the second page and decided to quit hauling for them. We have to stand most of the liability. The last thing I'm going to do is let them control me. |
