If you are supplying the trailer and the driver is not leasing I would say 65% to the driver and driver gets 100% of the fuel surcharg, tolls, det, ext.

Most will give you either a percentage of the load normally about 75 % for you and tractor. Some will give less , some more. Landstar is 75% of 98% of load.. Some will give you the % plus 100% fuelsurcharge. Some will try to put surcharge in the load and give you less than 100% of surcharge. Then there is the mileage pay. Normal seems to be .95 PLUS fuel surcharge.. OHHH boy. That is on HHMG loaded miles. Some will pay you for empty miles. Before you sign, tell them that you want to get a copy of the contract. Read it two or three times to get the full picture of what you can expect. I have found that Trimac has one of the better ones and pay.. 1.30 loaded... .92 empty plus full surcharge. CTS THey haul pneumatics, are 1.57 that's all miles and that rate is with fuel surcharge. Plus they pay for any fuel or road taxes. Some will fatten the pot by giving you free licensing, some have a safety incentive. Remember it is rather expensive for you to bounce around from one company to the next so try to check these companies out with a magnifying glass. Best of luck.

Also check if there is an escrow and read it over carefully. you may want to seek some legal advice from a lawyer that works in the transportation industry. I was charged an escrow once by a tanker company. This was a fee i had to pay in to agree to stay and not ditch them before the lease ended because i was working on a seasonal job. when the season was over i got my $1,200.00 escrow back. They were fair with me and now i just contract haul for this company with my own trailers and authority and they take out a very small percent for booking my loads.

It depends on what part of the country your in for PO work. Most of these guys who answered are giving you wrong answers. For example Salt Lake City to North Dakota for a tank trailer about 2.75 per mile but for a van to Texas would only pay around 1900 to 2000 as a straight run however most people want you to take it as a load out for nothing or close. A good Tx to ND tank 3200 to 3600 and a stack of flats out of Alabama to Tx 1500 to 1700, Nebraska hopper to anywhere just about 2 to 2.45 per mile. Hope this helps sort out the confusion. For those of you who don't know Power Only Freight here is a short description: I have a trailer or more in Houston I need to get to Kansas City and I offer you to haul each one for a flat rate of what ever it is. You hook onto one of my wagons and haul it to KC and drop it in my yard, get paid and go the next load. Easy enough. Its a pretty good business to be in, no trailer no maint on the unit, no tags, no nothing, you hook you haul you get paid and go on. |

POWER ONLY Is an actual freight designation. ASK BETTER QUESTIONS, I was a POWER ONLY BROKER FOR YEARS AND YEARS and he specifically asked POWER ONLY not leased on to yadayadayada.ok. The damned original question was "power only".

Jeff is absolutely correct.
Post 2. "are you talking about where you would be leased to a carrier pulling their trailers?"... Post 3. "That's what I'd be doing"... Seems pretty clear and self explanatory to me. |

Yassa boss we just a bunch of stupid truck drivers, and not as smart as you are. Funny thing here boss, we know how to read postings that others put in on this forum. We don't need to be a broker to understand what this gentleman was asking, funny thing is the guy posted, we asked about what he truely ment, got an answer to that to clarify the original question.. We answered. Period. Funny thing is that truck drivers know how to READ and aren't as stupid as you think we are.. Funny thing is over the years I've met many drivers, some even with PHDs and had worked at IBM as a service tech.. So I guess we can't call them stupid.. And funny thing is with out us stupid, we don't know what we are talking about truck drivers.. Who would you broker to? Shipping companies? The rail? They don't need freight brokers... So where does that leave you?Boss.. So you might want to not BELITTLE your BOSSES. Without us you are doing something else..Maybe scrubbing toilets at the bus station. And you don't need to press the post forum message button more than one time, no matter how upset you are.

Power Only has not really changed. But by the 3rd post you realize this guy wants to be a lease operator and not a Power Only trailer mover.

thanks for all your information on just what kind of a dumb ass I am, 32 years doing this but I forgot this is your posting board and you run the trucking business and define all freight classifications according to what you know as right.

How's the 97% doing ya? It looks like one has more problems than expected. Those pesky scores for only having common authority for about a year or two. But you called it. 32 years OMG.. 32 years you say? WOW.. Big Deal. I'm just a kid and have over 42 years.. But I don't brag about it.

Tanker pay going to North Dakota should be..with fuel surcharge about 3.60 a loaded mile.. Plus pay for washout if needed.. And what is a wagon and a stack of flats? Funny thing is very few companies do power only like power resources. Or if somebody has a tractor.. That's the front part with the engine and is bob tailing someplace can sometimes get hooked up with an empty trailer to help pay for fuel.. We don't talk like rubber duck anymore.. That's so 80s.

Just because you didn't read all the post before posting and got called on it doesn't mean you have to act like a second grader that got their lolipop stole during recess.

i'm as guilty as anyone. My best advice, and I have a hard time taking my own advice, sit down with a pencil and go over what YOU think you need. Don't rely on the rest of us dummies, and don't take what the Corporate world tells you you should live with. I'm right behind you and look at everything available to see if there is something better than what I'm doing on my own. I would lease to anyone that can show me better numbers than what I'm doing. It doesn't matter what name is on the door, what is in your bank account dictates what you should do.
