This is a very common question I get from carriers. How do I update my MCS-150? How do I apply for an MC Number? How do I change my address or number of units?
The FMCSA recently made some changes and got rid of their old system to make online updates. The portal is now the one stop shop for the clearinghouse, accident and safety reports, as well as to make online updates. If you have not set up your portal account you can access it Here. They now require you to set up a Login.gov account and setup two-factor authentification. You'll also need your FMCSA PIN to register as the company official on the account. If you don't have your PIN, you can request to be sent by mail here. (Yes they send it via mail to prevent fraud). Most online updates show on Safer after 24 hours. When you compare this to the 2-3 week timeline when you submit a ticket manually, this should be the preferred method of making updates! If you need to re-activate an old DOT number or change the company name/ownership you'll have to fill out the form, but for simple updates do them online for a much faster turnaround!
If you have questions about how to access this system or would like us to help you make updates, don't hesitate to give me a call! You can add a company as a service provider on your account to make the updates for you.
