Canadian Carriers

Canadain Carriers why are we allowing the rates to get so low? We are turning down 80% of work these days cause rates brokers are offering are crap. Were running 1 or 2 days a week less in order to skim through on the better paying stuff. Theres a large portion of lease operators i talk to who work for other carriers are beliving they can survive on 3 a running mile (ironically i talk to them cause they got trucks or trailers forsale cause not making money). Anyone running decent newer equipment and wanting to maintain that equipment knows that isnt sustainable yet so many carriers are doing it. We need to collectivly look at rates and if we cant get min of 4.25 to 4.50 a running as a avg dont do the load (and even at those rates its still not that great go price out a new truck and youll understand) we should be at 5 a running mile. If we all work together and stop taking cheap rates it'll only take a week or two to bring all rates up. Brokers are still making money when you hear there margins for little amount of money invested in each load its 20 times margins truckers actually get and no equipment other then a office and a phone compared to cost of owning and operating trucks. Whats others thoughts on this do more trucking companies need to go into brokering? I have heard from a couple who are getting into it as thats only way they can maintain the margins for trucks. This isnt ideal for maintaining relaionships with all brokers either so has challenges there. Open to feedback on this and how can we collectively help the industry?

I can only speak for myself...our margins are not as large as you think they are. All of the rates I am getting from traders/shippers are low as well. Sometimes we spend multiple hours per day trying to cover (1) load. Not to mention, if someone falls off the load, it can take the whole day to recover it. I am very honest and up-front with our rates if asked.

Broken need to be honest with the shipper and inform them that that low rate is not going to move the load or your going to end up with a crappie equipment, not registered, not much insurance if any. That may not make it without mechanical issues. Use with nice newer equipment won't even waste our time with low rate frieght. I'll go broke at the house. Not paying to work.

When lightway takes the freight just to take it away from someone else

never have drivers that can speak English and are some of the worse driver

also ask the night manager at the Velva cenex how many times a week he has to clean the restroom because they use a corner instead of the toilet

how can you compete with cottonwood with all the free labor they are Hutterites

haul wheat and canola down and corn back

look what happened to the gravel business when the muslims hauled gravel cheaper and other companies went broke and were bought out by the rate cutters

there is so much China frieght brought through the border from the towel wearing people. They stand outside the truck waving their hands and jive talking some language

WHEN YOU COME TO A COUNTRY LEAVE YOURS BEHIND
